Today we dug deeper to discover more about who God is. After a quick review of the past lessons, the group was presented with a challenge. Imagine a group of young people trying to tie an intricate knot with parachute cord …….. it was quite a sight. The “diamond knot” proved to be a useful teaching aid and was quite challenging for some of the participants (myself included).
One great Jr. High Bible Study. Tonight we researched the characteristics of God. We found that God was present at the foundation of the world as all three persons--acting in all three persons--and yet was one in being (Gen 1:1, John 1:1-2 and Gen 1:1-2). Some were enlightened that, and I quote “God is here with us right now in the back yard”.
Tonight the Jr. High youth explored claims they may soon hear, that the Bible is unreliable because it has been changed by people over time and modified to say what the copiers wanted it to say. We learned that this could not ever happen, simply because of the amount of copies that were made when the Bible was originally written and the devoted believers who were willing to even die to preserve the Gospel accounts. Also, the fact that we have such ancient manuscripts preserved in the Dead Sea Scrolls makes our modern day Bible quite simply THE most reliable document in existence today. Frankly, if we can’t trust the authenticity and fidelity of the Bible then nothing ever written can be trusted.
Do you have to see something in order to believe in it? What about wind, can you really see wind? Does that mean it’s not really there? How about carbon dioxide? The “mad scientists” of the NCF Jr. High group performed extensive scientific research this evening in an attempt to answer these very questions. Wait a minute……I thought this was a bible study, not a science fair. What does a chemical reaction have to do with the Holy Spirit anyway?
I assume by now there has been significant talk about an ice cream bowl. Some have said that entire armies could march for miles within this bowl and never reach the rim. Though rumors of the bowl abound and are grand in scope the reality is oh so sweet! Imagine if you will a bowl, the likes of which none have seen before. A bowl that dwarfs all other bowls. One bowl to rule them all…que ominous music!
Week two of our study of the trinity was a revealing look at why God lets bad things happen to good people. Our group is focused on teaching our youth to love god and love others, so it seemed appropriate to explore our faith in this way in light of the recent events in Haiti.
Then we have a Bible Study for you! Hang out, learn, feed... it is a great time, and you can invite all of your friends to join you, too!!
First Meeting: February 14th! Happy SuperBowl!
